Film Critic: Goher Iqbal Punn
Director: Rafeeq Ellias
Cast: Yuki Ellias, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Sheeba Chadha, Suhasini Mulay and Kallol Banerjee
Director Rafeeq Ellias’s Love You to Death is out in theaters. The movie stars Yuki Ellias, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Sheeba Chadha, Suhasini Mulay and Kallol Banerjee. Rafeeq’s flick is a Hinglish movie but more than Hindi, English takes the front seat in the film. The film is a weak carnival with poor storyline and mundane script.
Love You to Death tells the story of a husband Atul (Chandan Roy Sanyal) and his wife Soniya (Yuki Ellias). Atul happens to be an ill-mannered and churlish businessman whose pleasures lie in money only. Besides he is suffering from missile failure as his sexologist reveals it to him. His wife Soniya loves her doggy more than hubby. Atul has eyes on wife’s real estate business and he tries to every level to grab it but he fails. Soniya also refuses to give it to him. Atul’s mom (Suhasini Mulay) schemes her murder, for what he instantly agrees.
The story of the film has nothing novel to attract the moviegoers. The saga appeals the most on paper but it is not appealing on the silver screen. To execute the story on screen is a big fun in which the storyteller lacks in plenty. The dialogues have been tried to pen as witty but unfortunately they seem boring. Genre of the movie has been shown as ‘comedy’ but finding it seems difficult on the flow of the film.
Direction is simply lackluster. Cinematography is below average and editing is laced with much flaws.
Coming to performances, none of the stars attract the souls. Yuki Ellias, the leading actress of the film is the daughter of the director. She shows nothing as far as acting is concerned and on the film’s credits’ list, she gets credits for co-writing the movie and assistant director. Chandan Roy Sanyal is okay with the role. Suhasini Mulay is average. Rest of the cast is below average.
On the whole, the film is a poor show all the way with weak direction, story and script.
