Kahaani, the flick that was being much awaited by the audiences after Vidya Balan’s The Dirty Picture turned a big hit in India and abroad, releases today. There were huge expectations from the viewers for this movie. Well, they are valid since one an actor does a brilliant job and the film gets hugely successful, the expectations from him or her becomes high. The same is the case with Vidya that viewers’ expectations are mammoth.
Balan does not spoil her fans’ expectations and does a big job in Kahaani as well. Sujoy Ghosh, who made a hit Jhankaar Beats in 2003 then his following flicks like Home Delivery (2005) and Aaladin (2009) turned flop, returns with Kahaani. In Aladin, he even took the like of Amitabh Bachchan, nonetheless the film did not work out at the box office.
But in Kahaani, there are big expectations for a big business at the box office with only Vidya Balan being the prominent name in the film. Vidya is now a powerful Bollywood hero who can carry the film on her shoulders.
Sujoy Ghosh is a marvelous storyteller and he puts the goods on screen with brilliance. The audience does not get bored even for a moment and that is the beauty of the movie.
Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan) arrives in Kolkata from London in search of her missing husband. A seven months pregnant, Vidya is all alone in the festive city. She tries hard to search the missing man but in vain. All try to convince her that he does not exist but she is not ready to believe it.
The story and the script are brilliant and the writers deserve the distinction marks for making this superb script. Cinematography is work of art and classy. Editing is crispy. Dialogues are worthy. Music by Vishal-Shekhar is melodious.
Vidya Balan once again delivers the goods supremely on screen. With this movie, she will again be fetching the awards for herself. The film too has potential to bag awards in various categories.
On the whole, Kahaani is a brilliant women-centric film with powerful script, performances and direction.
